02 Jun WBN Charitable Giving
As a group, established by, and consisting of women, we fully realize the daily importance and impact of relationships and mental health. Therefore, the Women’s Business Network is pleased to announce that we have chosen The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) as our 2015 charitable giving recipient. The AFSP started in 1987 to establish support for suicide research and education, as well as establish sustainable suicide prevention efforts. Some of their services include providing ways for suicide survivors to transform their grief into action, training facilitators for support groups, educating the public, and providing programs for people at risk. In 2013 (the most recent year for which full data is available) 41,149 suicides were reported in the United States, making suicide the 10th leading cause of death for Americans. In that year, someone in the country died by suicide every 12.8 minutes. Twenty-three veterans are dying by suicide daily. These figures are staggering, but the numbers of people affected by suicide are much greater. WBN wants to show our support of this worthwhile foundation and all that they do for women, families and the general public. Please join us at our June monthly meeting when we will present a $500 check to a representative from AFSP.
